Ava

'Ava' is the second in the 'Simple Joys' Collection -- a collection showcasing the every day, simple things that bring us joy.

A Personal Note From Katie:

Ava is a plant that lives in my (green thumb) friend's office. We've shared many laughs across Ava, often giggling over her 'diva' ways as she can go from leaves bright, cheery, and on full display in the morning to dull, droopy, and plain 'ol sad by the afternoon.

I was consistently inspired by the beauty of her leaves, but due to her 'moodiness' capturing that would depend on how she (the plant) was feeling that day. My friend snapped a few photos one day while Ava was feeling good and those became the reference photo for this piece. As I was painting the original, the name Ava kept coming to mind. It turns out Ava means "life," "to breathe" and felt quite fitting. I
